Emerging adulthood has been a leading factor that causes young adults to fall into an existential crisis, where they experience severe anxiety in addition to feelings of unworthiness and unacceptance. Therefore my customer audience is young adults aged 20-30, more specifically students who are recent college graduates, and/or have been out of college and currently hold entry-level occupations. I was inspired by the concept of having to prove one’s existence. I began to question why humans feel the need to prove their existence when I entered my 20s, why must we feel the gut-wrenching feeling to constantly earn more, do more, and have more, regardless of what it is? With that being said, my desire, through this collection, is to explore the alternative to such a mindset. The paradox of belonging to Jesus Christ and therefore being “fearfully and wonderfully made”, appears contradictory and opposing common sense, yet a large variety of research has shown this paradox is a possibility to consider. For this collection, I intend to laser print onto the linen fabric, to create a pattern, essentially creating my own fabric, allowing for my concept to be spoken through not just metaphorically, but also literally.
